Was it worth it?

February 21, 2006

In 1945, Gen. MacArthur landed in Leyte to liberate the Philippines from the hands of its Japanese Invaders . . .

Now, Leyte has been tagged as an environmental disaster area.

Another landslide? Hundreds of lives have been affected while a million others wonder, what has happened to this bastion of historical events?

I wonder if those in the DENR realize that we have a problem with our forests in this area. OOPS! Correction. We have no forests in the area.

3 Years ago, the same thing happened. Now, the people of Leyte has experienced it again. A disaster of historic proportion.

Learning from experience is not as painful as not learning from that experience. POLITICIANS have said that it will never happen again. But it did! Now is the time for those accountable to shoulder the responsibility for this tragedy.

Illegal logging should be considered a heinous crime because of its deadly effects on human life. Some critics will say, this is the price we pay for development. On my end, I believe this is the price we pay for corruption and red tape in the government.

To our leaders and the hooligans who continuously endanger the lives of our citizens by destroying our mountains I ask this simple question . . .

Was it worth it???
